Cody Bullock, Ph.D., ABPP

Background

I specialize in treating trauma / Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, insomnia and nightmares, and certain types of mood and anxiety conditions. Within my practice, I emphasize the importance of: Sensitivity and humility regarding individual and cultural diversity, ethical practice, client wellbeing, self-determination, and tailored treatment to align with the unique person and their intersecting identities. I began clinical practice in 2007 with the bulk of that being in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and, since 2016, in the US military. I obtained my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 2011 and was board-certified in Clinical Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology in 2023. I also am a Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT)-authorized provider.

I utilize a Cognitive-Behavioral orientation to psychotherapy and incorporate “third-wave” psychotherapies that address psychological concerns through holistic, contextual, and values-based approaches. I am formally trained in various evidence-based psychotherapies and have provided these to adults and older adults with diverse demographic backgrounds and identities. Specifically, I completed specialized, comprehensive training with requisite 6-month, in-depth consultation with specialists in the respective treatments for VA provider status in the following treatments: Prolonged Exposure (PE), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Written Exposure Therapy, and Motivational Enhancement Therapy. I also completed an additional intensive training in PE through the University of Pennsylvania‘s Center for the Study and Treatment of Anxiety, and am a Certified CPT Provider.

On a more personal note, I am from the Pacific Northwest and, perhaps stereotypically, have been an avid camper, hiker, snowboarder, and the like. My “happy place” is the forest - to me, wilderness reflects many parallels to our life journeys: Growth and renewal, navigation, balance, declines and inclines, cycles, and beauty. I find replenishment from weekend getaways to idyllic forest-lake / -river settings, especially mountains in autumn and winter. Additionally, I enjoy creative expression hobbies (e.g., listening to and playing music, encaustic painting, writing), and have a peculiar satisfaction with creating new Excel Spreadsheets and with puns / plays on word, and love all types of four-legged, furry friends and spending time with family and friends. Last but not least, I consider myself a “foody” and thoroughly enjoy exploring different types of cuisines from around the world - the fact that cuisines can reflect similarities of and differences between cultures is fascinating food for thought for me (yes, pun intended).

I have years of experience helping individuals with myriad presenting concerns. Some of these were life stressors while others involved lifetimes of trauma and other difficulties. Whatever may prompt you to pursue psychotherapy now, I invite you to contact me if you feel I am a good fit for your goals - it would be my honor to join your journey to live the life you want, consistent with the values you choose.
